At the University of Bonn, I teach various courses in the bachelor's program "Meteorology and Geophysics" (mug) and in the master's program "Physics of the Earth and Atmosphere" (pea), including "Introduction to Meteorology and Geophysics", "Dynamics of the Atmosphere", "General Hydrodynamics", "Special Problems of Theoretical Synoptics" as well as a "Block course on Cloud Model 1 (CM1)".
My research focuses on the identification of atmospheric vortices at different scales, atmospheric blockings and their relation to point vortex dynamics, and heat waves in the current and a future warmer climate. Using numerical models such as CM1, I study convection, particularly supercells and mesoscale convective systems. I am also interested in boundary layer processes related to wind energy. Another research topic is the relationship between the Covid-19 pandemic, social activity, and various weather parameters.
