My research interests are in understanding, statistical modeling, and forecasting of weather and climate extremes. This includes short-term forecasts, with post-processing of model forecasts and development of targeted verification approaches, as well as the detection and attribution of impacts of human activities on the evolution and characteristics of weather and climate extremes in the future climate. I consider important the integrated view of the Earth system, bringing together dynamical and stochastic process understanding, numerical modeling, and observational data. I am involved as PI in the CRC1502 DETECT (https://sfb1502.de/) and the Hans-Ertel Centre of Weather Research - Climate Monitoring and Diagnostics (https://www.hans-ertel-zentrum.de/). I will be leading the BMBF funded project group ClimXtreme II Module B (https://www.climxtreme.net), and I participate in the DFG Research Unit NEROGRAV as PI in IP3 - HIRABAM (https://www.asg.ed.tum.de/iapg/nerograv/projects2/ip3/)
