Mentorship

Since the summer semester 2024, the Meteorology and Geophysics teaching unit has offered a mentoring programme for students, primarily intended to make it easier for students in their first semester to start their studies. What is the mentorship?

A mentoring programme serves to pass on knowledge from experienced people. The mentor passess on the knowledge he/she has acquired over the courses of his/her (working) life to a person who is less experienced in the field.

Since the summer semester 2024, the Meteorology and Geophysics teaching unit has offered a mentoring programme for students, primarily intended to make it easier for students in their first semester to start their studies. The first semester covers topics such as self and time management, study techniques and exam preparation. Students from more advanced semesters are also welcome to take part in the programme.

Consultation hours are offered in addition to the semester programme. If required, please contact us by e-mail or drop by at the specified time.

Strategy

A transfer of knowledge should take place from student to student. Students from lower semesters can draw on the knowledge of higher semesters. Especially in the areas of self-management and time management, learning techniques and exam preparation.

Teaching

The mentoring programme is in close contact with the degree programme management. The knowledge acquired during the mentoring programme can be applied directly during the course of study.

Information for first-year students

In the winter semester 2024/2025, a preliminary course week will take place for the first time for first-semester students on the B.Sc. Meteorology and Geophysics and B.Sc. Geosciences degree programmes. The programme is run in cooperation with the Geosciences Mentoring Office. The main focus of the programme is to provide an initial overview of the University of Bonn. This includes the software offered by the University of Bonn and relevant for teaching, a tour of the campus, an insight into the working groups of meteorology and geophysics as well as a first insight into time management techniques. There is also the opportunity to get to know other students, network and exchange ideas. The following schedule provides an overview of the events during the pre-course week.

Dear first-year students,

For better planning, we ask everyone who wants to take part in the pre-course week to sign up on the registration list.

If you have any questions about the pre-course week, please contact me: mentorat-mug@uni-bonn.de

With best regards
Johanna
